Does lipophilicity affect the effectiveness of a transmembrane anion transporter? Insight from squaramido-functionalized bis(choloyl) conjugates.

Six squaramido-functionalized bis(choloyl) conjugates were synthesized and fully characterized on the basis of NMR ((1)H and (13)C) and ESI MS (LR and HR) data. Their transmembrane anionophoric activity was investigated in detail by means of chloride ion selective electrode technique and pyranine assay. The data indicate that this set of compounds is capable of promoting the transmembrane trans...

Structure–Activity Relationships in Tripodal Transmembrane Anion Transporters: The Effect of Fluorination

A series of easy-to-make fluorinated tripodal anion transporters containing urea and thiourea groups have been prepared and their anion transport properties studied. Vesicle anion transport assays using ion-selective electrodes show that this class of compound is capable of transporting chloride through a lipid bilayer via a variety of mechanisms, including chloride/H(+) cotransport and chlorid...

Investigation of ion transport and water content properties in anion exchange membranes based on polysulfone for solid alkaline fuel cell application

In present research work, homogeneous anion exchange membranes based on polysulfone (QAPSFs) were prepared via chloromethylation, amination and alkalization. In amination step, trimethylamine and N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1,6-hexanediamine were used as amination and crosslinking agents, respectively. The chloromethylated polysulfone was characterized by 1HNMR spectroscopy and chloromethylation degr...

Role of the AtClC genes in regulation of root elongation in Arabidopsis

The protein family of anion channel (ClC) constitute a family of transmembrane trnsporters that either function as anion channel or as H+/anion exchanger. The expression of three genes of AtClCa, AtClCb and AtClCd in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana were silenced by a T-DNA insertion . When the pH of the medium was slightly acidic the length of the primary root of plants with a disrupted At...
